Springfield City Utilities
Cara Shaefer is the Director of Communications & Energy Services for City Utilities of Springfield, Missouri. City Utilities is a progressive, community-owned utility serving 320 square miles in southwest Missouri since 1945 with electricity, natural gas, water, broadband, and public transportation services. City Utilities, which is overseen by a governing board composed of local citizens, serves more than 120,000 customers.
Ms. Shaefer joined City Utilities in 1995 and is responsible for the utility’s internal and external communications, energy services and renewables programs, and customer education. She is involved in the community on multiple boards, committees and task forces on efficiency and sustainability related issues.
Ms. Shaefer graduated from Drury University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communications. She is also a lifelong resident of the Springfield area.
